I have been watching this series on the Travel Channel and really like it. Francesco has shown such amazing places so far and it has made me want to see these beautiful sites in person!!!

If you have also been seeing this program and maybe visited some of the sites already, which ones were they and how did you feel seeing them close up? I would truly love to see the "Veiled Christ" in Naples some day.

I've watched the promos, but haven't sat down to watch an entire show yet. My mom, who has seen one of the shows, has said that it's much better to experience it all in person than filtered through an editor.

That said, I've been tasked to get the family over to Venice sometime next year for a week.

It is really a very good show. There is a thread on it on the music, movie board here under Italy on the Travel Channel.

The series was on the BBC and his first series "Venice" is now available on DVD. I believe both series also have accompanying books. He really is a wonderful guide to his own country and has a good sense of humour - sometimes at the expense of us Brits! I loved his comments about Tuscany - that it was many British women's dream to move to Tuscany, buy a house, grow a few grapes and maybe find a Latin lover - just like him!

The 2-3 episodes we've watched were very good. Finally quality on the Travel Channel. If only they spent as much time on this sort of thing, rather than poker and hauntings, it would truly be a "travel" channel!

PRINCESS I saw the veiled christ in Naples along with the net ,a sculpture of Jesus fishing with a net being thrown around his body.These were at a masoleaum [spelling?].You must check if you do go ,hours were limited and I think you need to call ahead.I have recently seen commercials for Francesco's show,but haven't seen an episode yet.I also must tell you everyone warns you of pickbockets in Naples etc. I found it to be very alive but not dangerous.Go to Italy as soon as you can I was always concerned the costs.I found it to be the best thing I ever did. I am going back in May 2007 its just so beautiful.Good luck.

I've seen them all and I love it that he goes to places I've never even heard mentioned before. The "veiled Christ" moved me and has now given me more thought to go to Naples.

DH and I have watched three episodes so far and very much enjoyed them.

There is nothing wrong with watching travel shows on Italy and seeing a repeat of special places again and again. But Francesco's touch on towns gave me a little taste of places not normally previewed on most travel shows.

It really is a quality show on the Travel Channel. They could use more of these types of programs instead of a poker tour of Las Vegas.

While I enjoyed this series, I thought it suffered when compared to the programs on Venice.

The former seemed to cover the subject in far more depth. I think that Francesco proved to be so popular that they quickly found something else for him to do.

I think the latter series covers too much too quickly, and there appear to be far more "filler episodes" which, IMO, detract from the overall effect.

The DVD of Venice is available on the UK version of Amazon, and I would highly recommend it.

The Veiled Christ is in the Capella Sansevero & you don't need to book ahead, just check the opening hours. I saw it last year and throught it was very impressive, although I was less impressed with the chapel overall than I'd anticipated.

I loved his episode on northern italy. Especially his visit to the Palazzo de Te in Mantua, with it's over the top frescoes.

I'm enjoying the series overall and having the opportunity to experience some of my cherished favorites again through his eyes. But I really wish they would cover only one or two towns in each episode--too often it is too superficial to do proper justice. But I do love his humor and that even he gets lost and ticketed at times. Mama Mia!

Listen up, Travel Channel programmers! We want more actual TRAVEL, not endless poker garbage!

How can I find out when this show comes on? Everytime Fodorites talk about show times on channels, or even when I look them up on the channel's web site, the program is not on as advertised - at least not in Mountain time. Very frustrating.

just google the name of the show or go to the Travel Channel's website for the schedule. Then find out what cable channel in your area is the travel Channel.

The show runs on the Travel Channel on Wednesdays at 8:00 pm ET.
I've also watched previous shows running the hour or so before the new episode comes on.

Thanks so much for your responses. Now I would like to know how I can get (USA Region 1) DVD's of Francesco's Venice and Italy Top to Toe? Or, when do you think the Venice program will be shown on the Travel Channel?
