France in December - Iteniary Suggestions
Hi,
group of four, late-20's, visiting france in the middle of december.
we're taking the eurostar to paris for 2 nights. we then have 3 nights to head off exploring...
any suggestions of where to go? we are wine lovers and would like to hit a wine region if possible (any vineyards still accept visitors around the 13th of Dec?).
wondering about thoughts on burgundy / alsace / champagne...
best way to get around = car?
thanks in advance,
j.

Hi,
Dec. is not the best month. Many touristic places are closed.
But Alsace is very fun in December: they celebrate Christmas in a fun way with a lot of decoration; their Chrismas markets are wonderful, and Alsacian wine is good all year round. If you go to a Marché de Noel, make sure to taste some Hot wine or vin chaud!
Burgundy will be dead ...
Provence will be less cold ... if you decide to go there, try Chateau-Neuf-du Pape wine tasting.

Oops ... I forget to answer about the car ... Yes a car is better to go wine_tasting (if somebody accepts to stay sober ).
But from Paris, you can take the new TGV line to Strasbourg. Rent the car there. There may be snow also, then it is safer to stick to Strasbourg. The downtown is really great! No need to rent a car them.

Alsace! Great destination at christmas time. One concern. (I made this mistake) Don't plan on spending too much time in a car, or any other form of transport. The best part of a trip is spent "being there" not getting someplace else! The TGV to Strasbourg and car rental there is a good idea. Tolls can be almost a expensive as train fare.
