I realize that August is not the ideal time to travel in France, but because of school/job commitments, it is our only option for summer vacation. We are planning 3 weeks - any advice about 1)how bad is france in august? and 2) suggestions for travel itinerary for 3 wks for 2 adults and 2 teenage girls? thanks very much, cathy

Just got back from spending most of the month of August in the South of France. It was much, much , much less crowded than I had feared it would be. I never had to wait in any huge lines, and in some smaller places I had almost an entire museum to myself. I made my hotel reservations about a month in advance and never had to wait for a table in a restaurant. So, if Provence is on your list, don't worry, and have an amazing time.
