France, Germany and Austria 16 day itinerary help
We have 16 days in Europe and are spending the first 7 in an apartment in Paris. The plan from there is still in the works. I'm thinking we will take a morning train to Colmar (2-3 nights) and day trip to Strasbourg on the way out of the region. We think we'll head to Salzberg for 3 nights, then travel to Munich for the last 2-3 days since our return flight is out of Munich. Any input? If we take a train from Paris to Colmar can we arrange a stop in Reims on the way? Would a stop in Hallstadt from Salzberg to Munich make sense? We would appreciate any hotel or B&B recommendations in Colmar, Salzberg and Munich. We are traveling with three adults and two young children (age 3 and 1).

Normally the TGV between Paris-Est and Strasbourg goes nonstop. There is always an interchange at Strasbourg on the way to Colmar. I would go to Strasbourg, do some sightseeing and go to Colmar in the evening. Frequent trains and just around 1/2 hour to go.
Would do a daytrip from Salzburg to Hallstadt or St. Wolfgang.
No recommodations, but www2.salzburg.info and muenchen.de could help you with accommodation. colmar.fr is in French only, but maybe you can read it.

Hallstatt is the other direction from Salzburg to Munich.
You might want to daytrip from Salzburg to Hallstatt. Are you planning on taking the train from Colmar to Salzburg? In Salzburg we like to stay in the Altstatt maybe at the Goldenen Ente or the Weisses Kreuz. What is your hotel budget.
In Munich we like to stay near the train station since it is close to the fussganger zone. Look at Octopustravel.com to see what you like around the train station. They don't always have the best prices but they do show pictures and they figure the price with tax and breakfast in dollars.

I'm with wolfmisc and would suggest you base yourself in Strasbourg. The train from Paris is a delight. From there you can manage some side trips as well. Salzburg is a delight. If time permits, perhaps a side trip to Kitzbuehl on the way to Munich...

Ira - the Am Moos in Salzburg was already booked (tried to get in two months ago). Other suggestions would be appreciated. Under 200USD total would be great, but if we can stay under 300USD for two rooms that is reasonable for us.
