We are looking to spend 7 days in Ireland before we fly into Liverpool. We are flying into Shannon and want to spend up to 4 days around Galway (interests: Arran Islands, Cliffs of Moher, traditional Irish music and lots of walking) before taking the train to Dublin where we will stay 3 days before flying into Liverpool for the rest of our trip.
-
My question, would you suggest splitting the first four days into two different places based on our interests, (be it Doolin, Clare, Ennis or some other base and then two days in Galway) or just do all 4 in Galway and be prepared for a bit more transportation (keep in mind we are only using public transportation).
-
My concern with splitting is if we did that, then we would want to do the Cliffs and Arran Islands the first two days due to proximity, but realize those places are very dependent on the weather (we are going late July).
-
We would also consider flying into Dublin then taking the train to Shannon, just need to find a convenient flight from Galway area to Liverpool. Thanks for any help!
Four days around Galway - best base

Inis Oir is near the Cliffs and the combi tour from Doolin including under the Cliffs is a regular we use for visitors. But if you want the tourist favourite Inis Mor then do that from Galway as a day trip via Rossaveal. lot shorter crossing on a bigger boat. Doolin is a nice enough place that we visit several times a year but I like the choice of a few more than 2 bars one which serves food.
Basically to fit your needs Galway would be the best option for all 4 nights
I agree with Tony.
If you aren't planning to rent a car, then Galway is your best option. Lots to see and do in town center, plus access to plenty of tour and transport options.

Haven't used any of them, personally, so NOT an endorsement.
