fountains at Versailles
Hello to those of you more well traveled. I have decided to take Fat Tire Bicycle Tour to Versaille but am deciding between Sun ( crowds + fountains ) or a Wednesday (<crowds, no fountains ) any opinions from those who have seen the fountains? Ashjen

The fountains are beautiful. So if all things are equal, I'd go on Sunday.
However, the three times I've been there (I don't remember the days of the week) the fountains have run for several minutes every hour.
Have they changed this? The reason I ask is that you could be there on Sunday and be in the wrong place to see the fountains (as I have twice).
I haven't been to Versailles since 2005.

Ashjen you will love the Fat tire bike tour!! We did it last year ...we rode to the station, rode the train with our bikes then got off in Versaille and rode to the markets where we bought our lunch then we rode all around the palace and had lunch at the end of the lake opposite the palace!! It was the Sunday and although busy it was not too bad. We actually liked the outside better than inside but it's all beautiful!
Have a wonderful time!

I was at Versailles on the day of a national holiday when the site was open for free and the weather was gorgeoous -- meaning, it drew a HUGE crowd. Really huge. And it was great!
Versailles is so huge it can handle all those people comfortably. About the only place you'll feel it is in some of the interior.
The fountains are marvelous and they really bring the place alive. Live like a king!

This was quite a few years ago, but the Sunday we went to Versailles there was a concert and most of the grounds, including the fountain area, was open to only those with concert tickets. So check before you go.
