For UK'ers/Londoners...how busy is Mayors Thames Festival?
We will be there with our children that weekend and wanted to know how it will affect our travel plans (congestion/tube/bus) or if there is a great place to view the fireworks from. We were planning on doing Tower of London on that Saturday morning and taking the boat cruise that day, just not sure if it's going to be crazy or not. Thanks! (It's 9/16-17 I think)

Can't say it impinged on me much in the past. I think "crazy" is unlikely to be the word - the participation figures they mention include everybody who took part in schools' events throughout London.
However, you might find the pleasure cruise boat services interrupted for at least part of the time the Great River Race is on (I believe the Barge Race hasn't affected other river traffic in the past): but you'll have to check that nearer the time.
I don't think you'll find tubes and buses impossibly crowded.
As for the fireworks, my favourite spot would normally be on the South Bank near Gabriel's Wharf.

Most Londoners probably don't know this event exists - it's a fairly recent invention. The tubes, buses, the Tower of London and the boats on the river will be as busy as on any other September weekend.
