For those who have married in Italy. Should we use a wedding planner from the US or one in Italy?

My daughter has decided on an Amalfi Coast wedding and is looking for a wedding planner. She lives in NY city so there seem to be plenty of planners who say they can do the job. My concern is that a NY wedding planner won't be able to take care of the many details or provide personal service.
I would appreciate hearing from those who have had experience. I've read many posts here and it seems that most have used wedding planners in Italy.
It will be a small wedding (10 guests). They haven't decided on a city yet.
Any suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks--

ummmm ok....

Anyways, another vote for Itallian wedding planner. I also haven't used an Itallian wedding planner nor had a wedding in Italy but it seems for a small wedding of 10 people someone over there would know a bit more about the area and places to have the cermony/reception where to get the flowers ect. ect....

If you do a search above you will find several posts describing the extensive paperwork involved in terms of translations of documents into Italian and getting notarization/approval from local officials.

Having run several meetings in Italy - I can;t imagine how anyone in NYC could really do this effectively - sometimes it involved walking things from place to place and being quite charming - to get done what had already been promised - or even reported done.

Hi kp,

I can't fathom arranging a wedding in Italy from NYC.

Can't they get married in NYC and have a reception in Italy? Much easier.

Oh Ira, where's the fun in that?!

Another vote for an italian wedding planner.

My sister-in-law married in Venice and managed to find a British wedding planner who was based there - so she had the added advantage of someone who understood her British needs, combined with knowledge of the local laws and language. The wedding planner escorted the wedding throughout, was on hand to deal with the venues and the registrar, and stood in as translator during the actual ceremony itself. She was able to advise on great restaurants with private rooms to eat at both before and after the actual day, as well as hotels that did special deals. She found a fabulous italy-based photograher and stylist (who she knew and had used many times) and could advise on local wedding customs. I really don't see how you could do all that with a NY based planner.

If you do a search for 'wedding in venice' on this site, you'll find a description of the day.

By the way, this is the photographer that my SIL used - she's from South Africa originally but lives in Ravello - she was AMAZING. She normally goes through wedding planners, but may be opne to a direct approach. I can't recommend her highly enough.
