Yes. It is a 15-20 minute walk from the SGP to Duomo Square and I would say another 15 to Santa Croce. November should be great for walking but pack an umbrella just in case. The hotel is really lovely and we like to walk so for us it works.
Re Il Latini, I am not a fan. For my money, there are so many betetr laces to eat. But many like it so I am sure you will enjoy. It is VERY touristy.

Sorry but I cannot help you there. There are really just a few places that I go back to over and over again. Some are a drive from the city and
I am Italian and am really particular. I am lucky in that I have been introduced to several good restaurants by Florentine friends. Also, my very close friends own a trattoria there. It depends what you are looking for.

Whew! Cannot help you with this really exceot to say that we hang out most every night on the outside patio of the Hotel Savoy for Happy Hour. Great "bibite" and unbeatable people watching. Pricey but great views as it is right on Piaaza della Republica.
Also, if food is not really important I recommend Cafe David on Piazza della Signoria, my favorite Piazza. Food is better than decent, waiters are good and also friendly and again, you are on a main square so you will not be bored! Good pizza and decent pasta and not too high prices. Also, it is pretty much on the way to Santa Croce from SGP.
BTW< there is a a great cafe, Bar, right to the left of SGP facing the street. We had cappucis there ever morning and our first glass of wine at the outside tables. Not any tourists but a great place to mingle with the Italians.
