For April, where would you go (in Europe)
Thinking about another trip. April (spring break) is something we have to plan for around here (two professionsl parents, one ten year old son). We would have about 10 days, maybe a little more.
This is partly a weather based decision (looking for 70ish degrees and minimal rain) but also interesting area for the travelers.
I am thinking Italy, south of Naples to include Amalfi Coast and maybe Capri (might go to Maratea, Matera, and or Rivello area).
Wife is thinking Southern France to include Provance.
Budget would be mid range (above hostels but up to 150 euro per room night).
Any comments, guidance or experinces would be appreciated. In addition to Provance, where else in Southern France might you recommend?

Could we narrow it down a bit, please?
If it's just temperature (on the basis that everywhere's inteesting) then you're really speaking about anywhere round the Med.
Apart from Provence (sp.)you have the Languedoc- Aquitaine area (See Ger's latest trip report with all the bastides and Toulouse and Montpellier, not to mention the Lot), right over to Biarritz and the Fench Basque country.

April is a very nice month to visit Andalucia. In Seville is held their biggest event of the year : Feria de Abril and the weather uses to be good and not too hot.
I won't go to the French /Spanish Basque Country in April , chances of heavy rain are too much at the beginning of spring.

There is nothing prettier than the tulips in Holland in the middle of April. One year we flew into Amsterdam, saw the tulips, flew to Venice, rented a car, drove through Tuscany to Umbria, took the train to Naples and stayed on the island of Procida. We didn't have any rain the whole trip, and the weather south of Venice was warm and springlike. Lots of roses and poppies blooming. I remember it was really too hot in Pompei. We were gone about two weeks and flew home out of Rome.

I think many of the places you mention will not have weather as warm as you want. And there is lots of rain in most of europe in April.
To be safe I think you would really need to do southern Spain - or Cyprus or Malta.

Andalucía will definitely have the best temps in April. And it's a very interesting area (Sevilla, Cordoba, Granada, ...). Considering that in 2006 Easter is on April 16th, don't wait too long to make hotel reservations.
