Food safety for pregnant woman
Hi,
A friend of mine wants to join me on a trip to Turkey last week of March, we are mostly concentrating on cultural touristy sites. She is three months pregnant and I am concerned about food safety and about her getting sick. Also would Turkey be a hectic destination for her? Is it a good choice of a trip for her or should we plan to go there next year? Thank you very much.

sorry, but I don't think you need to worry about food safety and her getting sick. SHE should definitely consult her obstetrician however for a physician's recommendations. As for hectic, that will depend on what pace you want to keep during your one-week trip.
If for example, you are staying in Istanbul for most of the trip, you can stay in a central location and she can work in plenty of rest time, if she thinks she will need it. That would pretty much apply in most destinations.
Enjoy your trip.

Drink bottled water, brush teeth with bottled water; don't eat street food. Otherwise, your friend should be fine.
Depending on where you intend to visit during the week, your trip can be hectic or not. If pacing yourself, you can split the time between Istanbul and Izmir (Ephesus). There is plenty of walking, but at 3/mos shouldn't be a problem (good comfy walking shoes a must, even for you). How do you plan to travel, if more than two cities?
Preggies do just fine with travel most destinations till the last months, when it's just uncomfortable.

Well, next year you would be travelling with a young infant, so in terms of food and water safety, and being tired,, ha, ha, it will be worse.. I can tell this is a first for both of you.
Go now, don't eat street food, drink and use bottled water. Consider staying outside Istanbul at a beach town for a restful vacation( after doing a few days in Istanbul to see sites of course) .
The first year with babies is very tiring for most moms, and when the baby starts solid food , ( anywhere between 6 months and a year) I would be MORE careful in a foriegn country , until their little systems are older. Diareaha can kill an infant, but is only going to make most adults unhappy, LOL
