Folegandros or Milos ??? Help on Irtiniary

Dear Everyone,

This is my sample Itinerary.

- 2 days in Athens.

- 3 Days in Santorini

- 3 days we want to spend in either Milos or Folegandros ? Either we will choose Folegandros and cover Milos as a day trip from there or we should stay at Milos and can cover Folegandros ?? Stay at which place ?? Please suggest.

- 2 days we want to spend in Naxos . Then return back to Athens.

I know its little tight. But we don't like to spend much time lying on the beach and love to travel and see more places. So I guess this should be fine .

Suggestions Please.

Thanks,
Smita.

When do you plan to travel?

Folegandros is a very small island, Milos is bigger and offers more possibilities.

Please note that there is no possibility to do a day trip from the one island to the other. The ferry connections are not that frequent.

If you would have to choose between the two, i would recommend Milos. But again these islands are about enjoying the blue water and the sandy beaches,on these two islands there won't be many other options... while you said you don't want to just lay on the beach....

Naxos would be the right island to combine with Santorini, due to it's size and variety, as it is mountainous with nice villages and main town, it is the biggest island of the Cyclades.

Before you decide i would recommend googling all the islands that you want to visit to see what they look like and what they have to offer.

Keep in mind that checking out from your hotel, getting to the port, then getting to the next island, and to the next hotel is quite time consumming and depending on the departure time of the ferry, could eat a big part of the day.
2 days = 1 night.. which is not enough time if you really want to see an island.

Personally i would stick with Heimdalls wise recommendation of either Naxos or Paros.

Hey clausar, Thanks for your reply ans suggestions. Now I am not thinking about Folegandros.

Santorini is THE MUST in our list. But after Santorini We will be having 4 or 5 days with us. So we thought of doing 2 more islands. So what do you Suggest - staying these many days in Milos or staying in Naxos ? We want to know which place is having more sight seeing and more to offer .

Any other Island also you guys can suggest which is well connected to Athens & Santorini. HELP PLEASE

I think i already answered the dilemma, Naxos it is !

Have you studied the map to see where all these islands are ?
Since Santorini is a must, you don't have any other options, unless you want to fly to Athens and from there to an island that is located in a different geographical group.

On my only trip in the islands we stayed on Santorini and Naxos. It seemed to me a perfect combination for we who also aren't interested in beaches. I found Naxos the more entertaining of the 2. I suggest you stick with those 2, as clausar says.

Good suggestions from clauser.
Both Milos and Naxos make good companion islands for Santorini but logistics dictate that you choose one or the other not both in such a short time.
We have visited both and while we like Milos we love Naxos. The problem in recommending one over the other though is you are looking for "more sight seeing and more to offer." That doesn't give us much to go on.

Milos is unique with lots of beaches and crazy rock formations and colourful rocks as well. It has some cute fishing villages and three centers to stay at plus a round the island boat excursion.

Naxos has even better beaches a lovely main town topped by a kastro a smattering of antiquities and lovely mountain villages.

Here is what you will find in Naxos

Here is what you will find on Milos

If you plan to fly back from either of these islands you should book soon as they are serviced by Dash 8 aircraft with max passengers of 30 so they get booked up quickly.
Whichever island you choose you will have a great time.
