Fodors/server problrems..is it only me?
For the past week, I have been unable to access Fodors...then today, like magic, there there are. Has anyone had similar problems...what's with their server. is someone messing with the script? I have grown accustomed to their face, and miss it when it is down/

As a suggestion:

Consider whether problems are with Fodor's or somewhere along the Internet.

If you're running Win '98 or Win '95 you can check out the path between you and Fodor's (or elsewhere.)

Go to Start, Programs and select MS DOS Prompt.

In the DOS window that appears type
tracert www.fodors.com

It will take a minute or two to complete, but what you'll see is the routing that your access to Fodors takes, and the length of time on each path.

Don't worry too much about the exact numbers. As a rule anything under 500ms is okay, anything over may be cause for concern. (If you're on a DSL or cable connection the times will normally be under 100 ms.)

If you see high numbers (or time outs) early in the course of the trace then the problem is with circuitry on your end of the network, or with your ISP. If the problems appear toward the end of the sequence the problem is with circuitry near Fodors, or Fodors itself.

If you find that you get timeouts once you've reached Random House the problem is a Fodor's problem.

FYI while I've had no notable problems today, I note that the trace I'm running right now shows timeouts with the Fodors site.

Ed

Could not understand why there were so many posts regarding the inability to get on. Had not one problem after discovering the forum until yesterday, and low and behold, I could not get on all day. Maybe they were servicing the site. Yeh, we are on today!

I think the whole network of internet employees in the US were taking the holiday this week. If we got on internet, it clicked off. If we got on a site, it beeped us that we were illegal, the phone line on the internet and even once, in our house made wierd sounds. Everyone was out of town.
Finally, today everything is back working consistently

I have had problems during work hours(California) for several days. I normally use IE. Evenings have not been a problem. Yesterday I could not get on at all until I tried Netscape, then got on with no problem. The MSN network seemes to have been the problem.
