Hi everyone,

I will be flying from Paris to Venice in July and am wondering which airport I should look at flying from. It is 25 euro cheaper per person to fly from the Orly airport (and a better time for us) but I also want to make sure we are able to get to the airport okay. We are staying in the Latin Quarter.

What are our options for getting to the airport?

Also, does anyone know how early to be at the airport for your flight (EasyJet)? I looked online but I was having trouble finding it. All I could see was that they stopped boarding 30 min prior to the flight.

To Orly: Via Taxi
TO CDG: Taxi, bus or RER.
Taxi to Orly is about half the cost of taxi to CDG.

Also, since CDG is more crowded, I recommend arriving 120 minutes before your flight or 90 minutes before at Orly. Also, traffic to CDG less predictable than traffic to Orly.

What did you decide Sorrento v. Positano for your nights near Amalfi?

Thanks zorrosf! Do you know how much the taxi is to Orly? If we did CDG we would probably do train, but I think the price difference may end up being the same with the cost difference for the flights.

I think we are going to do Positano. We have a place booked for the 5 nights. I also booked somewhere for two nights in Sorrento when I was trying to decide (thought of splitting it up), but Im thinking it will be easier to just stay in one place. We will likely do Pompeii on the way to Rome.

I took a taxi to Orly twice and it was about 30 euros for a 15 minute trip but I wasn't in Paris proper. For you, I would suggest budgeting about 40-50 euros but there are taxi calculators online which should give you a more accurate suggestion.

Definitely try to get to the airport an hour to an hour and a half before the flight. Easyjet flights tend to be quite full.

Orly is much smaller than CdG so may be easier to navigate once you are there. As to how much time to allow at the airport, read the website for your airline. Many budget lines use Orly and their restrictions on luggage and cabin items are often very strict.

Orly is a good airport.
I've seen people being turned away 2 min after the limit - meaning 28 min before departure.
If you have plenty of time and a very tight budget - you can fly out from Beauvais I suppose - I've flown Ryanair (from Charleroi) for about 25€/trip.

you need to allow time not so much for check-in [you will probably do that on line] but for the bag drop [if you are putting bag/s in the hold] and security. There won't be any announcements so you need to keep an eagle eye on the boards which tell you when and where to board the plane.

as for restrictions on what you can take on board, if you are only taking carry on luggage on Easy jet, you need to be aware that for boarding, any hand luggage [eg a laptop, or a handbag or "purse"] need to be inside the carry-on - you're only allowed to carry one piece of luggage on board. however, once you're on board, you can do what you like! [within reason]. And if you are putting luggage in the hold, it needs to be 20kg or less. however unlike Ryanair, they do allow "pooling" - i.e. if you are travelling in a party, if you have 22kgs and your travelling companion has 18kgs, you're ok.

has anyone heard of an airline called Transavia? We are looing at one of its flights because the time is good but I haven't heard of it before. How is it in comparison?

For the Easyjet flight from CDG it is a 11:10 so we are wondering if we have to be there 3 hours in advance and take the train there, we will likely have to leave our hotel at 6:30 am (7 am train, arrive at 8).

With the Easyjet flight from Orly it is at 2:30, with only needing to be there 1.5 hour in advance and the cab ride (looks to be the same cost almost as taking the train to CDG?) we would need to leave around 12 pm.

The last option is the Transavia flight at 12:30 from Orly which sounds like a great time, but again I have never heard of their airline.

no need to be at CDG 3 hours before an easy jet flight - some people cut it fine and allow an hour but 2 would be ample, so you could leave central Paris at 8 am and be there in plenty of time.

I would go for that one - if you do the Orly flight you'll have spent the whole day travelling by the time you get there.
