vivian, somehow your post is tagged for Romania so it won't show up if someone wants to respond to Italy questions.
If you are arriving at FCO there is a shuttle bus that picks you up outside Terminal 3 and stops at Piazza Cavour. The cost is 8 euros and Piazza Cavour is the first stop. We used this bus service early in May. The bus runs about every half hour and you just stand in line by the bus sign on the median. We bought our ticket while waiting in line. I'll try to find the link to the bus information and add it to this post. If you don't think the walk is too far this bus was the cheapest way to get into Rome for one or two people.
I checked at www.viamichelin.com and there is a metro stop near your street. The Leonardo Express to termini is 14 euros a ticket and then you'd take the metro from there.
The taxi to the airport cost about 55-60 euros when we went from our apartment near the Pantheon to FCO this past Sunday. I hope this information is helpful. Have a great trip.
Deborah
viviana, you can find more information about the bus service we used from FCO at www.sitbusshuttle.it Deborah
Your hotel would be a 10-15 minute walk from the shuttle drop as it's on the opposite side of Castel Sant'Angelo (away from the river).
Otherwise, you can train to Termini (14€), switch to metro (1€) Ottaviano stop. The metro stop is closer to your hotel, but train/metro can be very crowded and you have to watch for pickpockets.
Taxis are set fees of 40€.
ky, I know the signs say 40 euros to the airport with baggage free
but our experience from Rome to FCO was the meter showed a cost of 50. We had two cabs going to FCO from the taxi stand near Piazza s Silvestro, both fares with a small tip were 55-58. Deborah
The legal charge is 40€ including bags for 4 people so you were ripped off. You do have to make sure you have a Comune Rome official taxi. Either you didn't use an official taxi or you were ripped off. Confirm the rate before getting in or handing over baggage. It used to be the city of Fiumicino taxis could charge more (60€) and that was listed on the airport website. That is no longer listed.
From the airport website:
>In correspondence of the Terminals 1,2, 3 and 5 of Fiumicino airport it is available a taxi service to Rome. The cost of the service is 40 euro, baggage included, for a maximum of four passengers, for all the destinations inside the Mura Aureliane which delimitate the central area of the city.
The cost for the service is the same also for the contrary way, from Rome to Fiumicino.
For further information contact P.I.T, the Tourist Information Point of Rome, inside the airport, which supplies information on the service, by checking if the destination requested is the destination subject to the fix rate. For different destinations the cost will be indicated by the taximeter on each taxi, to which the baggage fee shall be added.
The cars for the taxi service of the City of Rome are white and can be recognized by the sign "TAXI" on the top and by the identifying licence number on the doors, on the back and inside the car.<
From the Rome Tourist Board website:
>Airport Info:
www.adr.it
The Comune di Roma (Rome Council) has set up a fixed tariff for taxis from Fiumicino and Ciampino Airports to inside the city walls. The tariff is 40 Euro from Fiumicino and 30 Euro from Ciampino (maximum 4 people with baggage included in the tariff).
The number to call for a taxi is +39 06 0609.<
Picture of official taxi (note this website is saying the rate is now 45€, but that is not reflected on official sites).

Rome Shuttle Limousine is 40€ into Rome, 35€ from Rome to FCO (3 people including bags).

Both of these listings mention taxi service FROM the airport TO Rome, not FROM Rome TO the airport. Could there be a different rule for one direction versus the other?
I know that in NYC when the set taxi fare from Manhattan to JFK airport was created, it was in one direction only—FROM the airport TO Manhattan. It was created as a way to protect visitors unfamiliar with NYC from being literally "taken for a ride". At that early time, a trip TO the airport was still a metered fare. Eventually the set fare was made for both directions.
Thanks for the info deborahann and kybourbon. There is 3 of us coming in to Rome tomorrow and judging by the amounts you mentioned from Leonardo Express plus the Metro, that already amounts to €45. Looks like the taxi would be the best deal plus keep us away from the pickpocketers.
So can we expect the return taxi fare to be the same if we called the number you gave kybourbon?

No. There are street signs all over the city of Rome stating what taxi fees are allowed legally - 40€. The cost of the service is the same both ways as stated on this link on of Rome Tourist Board.

Vivian - If you have time, see if you can book Rome Shuttle Limousine. I would assume if you call a taxi from your hotel, it would cost more as they could probably charge travel time to pick you up which is different than just getting in a taxi already waiting at the hotel or taxi stand. There is a taxi stand at Piazza Risorgimento which is only a block from your hotel.
ky, I don't consider that we were ripped off, we had a relaxing farewell drive through Rome and we did use a commune roma cab. I think the price for 4 people with luggage and dropped at Term 1 and 5 our 55 euro payment from Rome was not excessive. An airport shuttle would have been as much or more and we may have had other pick ups along the way.
Deborah
My niece traveling alone with luggage getting a cab at 5:30 am on a Sunday may have been a rip off for the same price but she arrive safely and on time for her flight at an "unholy hour" in the morning.
Now my sister paying 40 euros for a cab from Termini to the apartment near the Pantheon was a ripoff
Ok, you weren't ripped off, just overcharged 10€. The reason the city made this rule is there were so many tourists being ripped off by taxi drivers and that is the reason there are signs everywhere stating the allowable charge. It's only been in effect a few years.
The cheapest airport shuttle I know of is Rome Shuttle Limousine and 4-5 people would cost 50€. I've used Limo Service Rome, but they are more expensive (65€).
I imagine Vivian is enjoying Rome by now. Perhaps she'll report back which she chose and how much she paid.
Is the cost to:
Via Filippo Civinini, 46
00197 Roma, Italia
06 802401
still 40 Euros? The standard fare is to area within the Aureilan walls, but this hotel (Regent Hotel) is outside to the north.
