My husband and I are planning a trip to Italy for May, 2006. Our exact dates are still up for debate, but we have determined that we would like to rent an apartment in Florence for a week. We plan to stay in the apartment 4 or 5 nights, with the remaining nights occupied by a friend who will meet us partway through the week. Ideally, we'd prefer a 1 bedroom with a matrimonial bed, plus either a pull-out sofa or daybed in the living room for our friend. Laundry equipment - at least a washing machine - would be a bonus. We also would like a place with parking, or a nearby car park as we will be hiring a car beginning day 4 in Florence for daytrips through the Tuscany region.
One more thing, because we plan on directing a good portion of our travel budget toward art purchases, great food and even better wine, we would like to stay economically in Florence. Fancy furnishings and views are not necessary, but safety and cleanliness are a must. We would prefer a location near the Centro Storico, perhaps in the Santa Croce or San Fridiano neighborhoods. We would like to keep the price around €650 to €750 including utilities and cleaning.

Not based on a stay with this agency (well, at least not in Florence) - - but there are numerous listings for in Florence at http://www.domani-usa.com/florence/index.html - - and they treated me well, the one time I traveled to a property they represented.

I can highly recommend the San Lorenzo Apartments owned by Gianna Galeota. She has several units to choose from, all renovated, and we were very pleased with the service (both pre and post arrival), as well as the location, ammenities and price.

blondie, the street directly in front is pedestrian only, as I recall. However, there might be parking nearby. I would email Gianna directly and ask her. She was very good about responding to my emails within 24 hours or less, depending on the time difference.
Yes, the location really is fantastic and we were very happy with both our apartment and the safety of the building in general. Did you go to below specific link for the apartments? It seems that most info that would be needed is there...except for parking info.

I'll be happy to answer any other questions you might have. We stayed in the Lepri apartment which had a queen sized bed in the upstairs loft and a futon sofa bed in the living room.
Which apartment are you specifically looking at? If it happens to be the Lepri, then I can give you a lot more details about it.
I would second the recommendation for the San Lorenzo Apartments. It is in a secured building. However, I'm not sure about parking. My understanding is that only residents can drive cars in Florence? Maybe someone else can clarify this.

This cute apt is centrally located and has a rooftop terrace/patio and wood beamed ceilings. I didn't get a chance to stay here but the landlord lives near-by the apartment and seemed very nice over email.
