My wife and I are interested in renting an apartment (or B&B) for 3 nights in Florence in July. We don't know Florence at all and would appreciate advice on good neighborhoods for apartments or B&Bs. We will be renting an apartment in Trastevere in Rome. A neighborhood like that would be nice.

Venere.com is a great website for finding a place to stay in cities in Europe. I found a hotel in Florence that was in an old palace just a few blocks from the Duomo. It probably wasn't fancy enough for your needs, but there are lots of options on this website - all prices and areas of the city.
