Can anyone recommend a 2 bedroom apartment in the Oltrarno/San Spirito area of Florence.
Looking to book for May 2007. Any suggestions welcomed.

Thanks guys for those websites. I have been extensively trawling the internet for some time for suitable accommodation. I am hoping that someone can give me a personal recommendation of an apartment they have stayed in, in this area.

Asty... We are currently staying in a great B&B, and have been for the last 6 days. We return to the USA tomorrow and when I get back I'll sit down and do a trip report on our week here in florence which has just made my list of the top 3 cities in Europe that I will return to. the web site for this B&&B is www.Florencegrandtour.com and check out the rooms. You can also find other comments about this place on trip advisor. We have just spent the week in their Diva suite, which was not my first choice, but our friends canceled out and Christina, the lady who runs the B&B gave us that suite, since it is a bit more quite and has the advantage of 2nd bed and sitting area with tv that can be curtained off to provide my wife with a little peace and quite if I decide to stay up late. Most of their rooms are down a long hallway in the center of an old 16th century bldg, off a small, very pretty inner court yard decorated with flowers and bowls of fresh fruit, where you can sit in the morning and enjoy your croisants and coffeee. Or you can go up to the corner coffee shop/wine bar on the corner of Via 27 April and santa Reparata, for your free cappochino and dolce (that also comes with the price of the room). The narrow street that it's on can appear a bit depressing at first glance,(grafitti is everywhere in Florence, but the streets are clean. However, don't be deterred from staying here, since the entire area is safe, full of students, fun to walk around at night and it's only a short 2 to 3 block walk to the Piazza San Marco (just up the street from where the line for tickets starts for all the tourists who want to see David in the Galleria dell' Accademia) and it's a short 2 block walk down Via Santa Reparata to a side street that dumps you directly into the Mercado Centrale piazza and all the little restaurants that surround it. (try Za Za's or Pepo's which is right nest door around the corner for luch or dinner). Anyhow, it's Monday, so today must be the Museo dell' Opera del Duomo and then maybe a side trip to Fiesole, so I've got to run. Hope that helps. Will try to provide more when and if we return to california. ( the trip over was a bitch with a missed flt and lost luggage, but that's another story...adios Socal

I rented an apartment in Oltrano for a month about 3 years ago through rentvillas.com. Mine was a 1-bedroom apartment, but there were some in the building with 2 or more bedrooms.

The location was great (I had a view of the Ponte Vecchio from the windows), the apartment was clean and decently furnished.

The pictures on their site were true representations of the apartment, too.

We have stayed twice in an apt on Borgo San Jacopo which is the the first street on the oltrano side of the ponte vecchio. The apt is fine for two people and a third in a pinch. Has two twin beds and one of the sofas in the living/dining area opens to a bed.


The kitchen is quite small but was adequate for our needs which were mainly for breakfast or a snack with wine. Did not do a lot of cooking.

The apt backs up to the Arno and has a great view of the river, the bridges and the Firenze skyline.

The bathroom is small and has a tub shower. Not great but adequate.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions.
I have managed to get a 2 bedroom apartment, (as there are 3 of us), practically opposite the Pitti Palace,
at the beginnning of Via Romana. Sounds and looks really good, so hoping it lives up to the website photos etc. We are three New Zealanders who are going to spend April in Venice and May in Florence.
Can't wait!!
By the way, our Venice apartment is just off Campo Santa Margherita, so once again, hope it is good.
