Flights from NYC to Rome, May-June 2009

Hi... my fiancee and I are planning our honeymoon in mainland Italy/Sicily for May-June of next year. I found a roundtrip flight from JFK to Rome (actually 2 one-ways) for a total of $844 pp. That seems like a very good price to us, but since we still have a few months to go, we don't want to book in case it goes down. Most other prices we've seen are in the $1100-1400 range. We're flying out on May 27 and back on June 13. Should we book now or wait until wintertime? Thanks!

very doubtful you will find a lower fare for that time slot...that is the beginning of the high season and if you have a quote of 844 you best jump on it and dont look back.
most likely fares will be 1000+USD for that time onward.

Seems like a good fare to me - I can't imagine finding one much cheaper and I think you risk having to pay alot more.

Wow, that's a good price. Go for it. Do you mind if I ask which airline since we are going to Europe (France/Italy, I think) in early June?

Be careful.

You'll sometimes see a quote that's not all inclusive of the various taxes. The others you've seen might have included them...

For May 27, it's Aer Lingus from JFK to FCO (with a 2 hr layover in Dublin). Kayak.com quotes this flight for $422, but aerlingus.com's final quote is $446.77. On the way back, there is a nonstop flight on Eurofly (Meridiana) for $317 euro, directly from their website, which currently equals about $400 USD. Sounds like we should jump on these!

Are you sure those are really one-way prices and you can buy just that portion? They might be showing a one-way fare that is dependent on buying round trip (I've seen that a lot). I'd just check to make sure you can really do it as two one-way tickets.

I usually book when I think I have a great price and then stop checking. Otherwise I'd find something lower and regret my previous purchase. There's always something lower later, but it may not be exactly what you are looking for (dates, times, etc.).

Good luck! that price does look good to me too!

You do NOT have the flexibility you think you do; you have specific dates and hence, you have to pay extra for that. The fact you found direct tickets for the exact dates you are looking for and at less than $1K/pp is great. It is your honeymoon---why you want to dilly-dally and fly twenty legs to save you $150 bucks...somebody explain this one to me, 'cause it sure sounds like a no brainer.... take the JKF flight.

You can usually do well with AerLingus from JFK to Europe via Dublin. We flew them two summers in a row and although the flight is pretty basic in coach, you can't beat the price.
