Iberia has the only direct flights. Your only other option is to take the train, but it takes about 11 hours. There's one that leaves in the morning, and one that leaves in the evening.

I've researched this at length, and also had someone I know check in Spain to see if there are any discounts. Unfortunately, there aren't any.

Myer,
This is a common and vexing dilemma when Iberia is your only option.

Since Iberia is the only airline in and out of Granada and the lack of competition keeps those fares really high, if you want to keep Bcn in your 2 week itinerary, I see your other options as these:

1) to do the 1 1/2 hr. drive to Malaga airport for the cheaper 11:55 Spanair flight (87 euros), which is time consuming plus aggravating with heavy traffic, and I believe you said in another post you weren't planning to rent a car, correct?

2) take the Alsina Graells bus from Granada that leaves at 8 and arrives Malaga at 10:15 (8 euros) then taxi to Malaga airport for that Spanair flight

3) or just take the overnight Trenhotel to Bcn. But if you choose a private 2 person Gran Clase (deluxe) sleeper with shower, then a ticket would cost an additional 118 euros, it appears.
The Preferente (first class) sleeper just has a wash basin, I believe.
But I'd get a sleepter-wouldn't wan to sit up for the very slow 11 hr. journey!

Hope this helps.

And Maribel comes through again!!

When I check the Spanair site flights from Malaga to Barcelona come up at app. 200. each person. In any event, I don't see us going to Malaga for a flight to Barcelona.

You also answered another question; the difference between first class and deluxe sleeper. It appears from your explanation that first class is the same as first class in France and Italy. We've done that before.

If Barcelona stays in, it looks like it'll be the sleeper.

Maribel, your help and knowledge is truly appreciated. I'll post a tentative (as it now stands) itinerary under a different thread for comments.
