Flight Amsterdam Munich July 2014

What can people suggest as a discount airline flying nonstop from Amsterdam to Munich next July? The flight is one hour plus a few minutes. Fares on the major airlines start in the high $200s. The discount airlines I have used, Vueling and Easy Jet, don't fly nonstop from Amsterdam to Munich.

Afaik only KLM and Lufthansa fly direct. You could look at Rotterdam or Eindhoven airports to see if other airlines use them.
It is a long way off yet, and KLM often have offers on routes like that. I would suggest keeping an eye on it for a while. The prices won't go up for a long while, and could well go down.
If you have bags to check you will be charged on KLM, unless you are a Flying Blue member.

A quick search on kayak.com shows return flights, next July, on KLM from $126, which seems reasonable for a 90 minute flight.

A one-way flight is much more expensive - strange but true.

KLM's discount airline is Transavia, based in Amsterdam I believe.

As sofarsogood pointed out, buying a round-trip ticket is a good deal. As far as taking the return goes, even the best of us get stuck in traffic now and again. Just don't add a frequent flyer number to the reservation.

Ach, scoundrels! Thanks so much, especially for your humor. I will check into Kayak and Transavia...

I suggest CNL http://tinyurl.com/ml6j5z9. That's the night train from downtown Amsterdam to downtown Munich. Fares for a sleeperette start at €49. You save the cost of a hotel night and save a big chunk of a day with airport logistics and security. And there is virtually no limit on how much luggage you can bring on board. For an itroduction to night trains see http://tinyurl.com/y57vft. It is a great way to travel.

Spaarne:

You read our collective mind! During dinner, my husband and I discussed the possibility of travel by train.

Will check that out...so thanks!

Transavia, currently not to Munich (but by next year who knows?) but to Salzburg (1 1/2 hr to Munich by train) or Innsbruck (under 2 hrs by train) or Friedrichshafen (2 1/2 hrs by train). Make lemonade out of the lemon and take a look around Salzburg - it's worth it!

They might as well take the train as do all that neckervd.

Likewise flying to Salzburg, unless a visit to Salzburg appeals before moving on to Munich. By the time you have gone through all the hassle and changes a train trip or the extra for a direct flight seem very attractive. At least to me.

I would have suggested the train, but since you asked for flights I didn't.

hetismij:
I fully agree with you as long as discounted train tickets are available (standard railway fare 170 EUR/pax).
