flamenco show in spain- would you be able to take a 7 month baby?

Hello,

We would love to see a flamenco show during our Spain trip this june but not sure if we would be able to go with our 7 month old baby. So, For anyone who has been to a flamenco show so know what the atmosphere is like- do you think they would let a baby in? or is it more like an adult show?

thanks

Would you normally bring a baby to a symphony, a ballet or a movie?

Or a bar.

The music is loud; the dancing is loud; the crowd is expressive if the former is good. The singing -- cante -- which is my favorite part of flamenco, is both loud and, to some ears, abrasive because it is not about happy things.

On further reflection, the best comparison in North America would be to a traditional blues bar.

You may be somewhere that has performances in auditoriums, and they may be different.

Or a club or theatre where a rock band is playing.

I have no idea what you have in mind with this show. There is plenty on YouTube which will show the variation.

Is your baby likely to spoil whatever atmosphere for others? Would it not be well past bedtime?

If both of you would love to see, one split the baby sitting duties and go at different times.

Babies are everywhere in Spain, and at local performances for a local audience, this will be no problem. An example where one or more "young aficionados" eventually chime in: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SdEeV7YHLQc

But you can't take a baby to the flamenco restaurants (tablaos) or the big concert venues.

And there are several outdoor festivals and flamenco events in small villages around Andalucia from June on, and here babies are of course very much welcome.

The shows are usually starting late at night, baby might get very fussy.

Here's a list of fairs and festivals throughout Andalucia in June. Mainly outdoor almost 24/7 events with local food, wine, song, dance and music. Often flamenco concerts, and often major artists turn up at such fairs and festivals: http://www.andalucia.com/festival/monthlyguide-jun.htm
Summer fairs and festivals: http://www.andalucia.com/festival/summer.htm

It's still unusual to use a babysitter in Spain, but some hotels now offer the service for their foreign clients.

Baby sitting service for a 7 month old child. Not in the real world.

It's their first kid so they probably don't normally anything yet.

thanks for your replies. yes it is our first kid so its hard to know what to do- big adjustment from our usual lifestyle, and many things in Europe are different to things in Australia which is why I asked. in particular I know some bars/tavernas (not sure on the equivalent name in Spanish) in Europe can be more family oriented than the bars you find in australia and america. Thank you to those suggesting the outdoor and more local style flamenco shows that i didn't know about- I think I will try look into this- or come across some in festivals. -or take the alternate night swapping with hubby option if we are desperate to see a show. i would not have the courage to enlist a stranger for babysitting duties for a 7 month old though. its hard to know what our baby will be like in the evenings oversees - he might be happily passed out sleeping in a stroller or be fussy and overtired- hopefully the former.

IF anyone knows of specific outdoor/local bars that might do regular shows please let me know- in either andalucia- Madrid/Barcelona or anywhere in spain as we have 35 days driving around many parts of the country. (and if anyone has tips for travelling with baby that would also be great)

I would think most Flamenco shows would begin rather late for a child's bedtime. And the noise from the music, laughter, clapping, etc would not be great for sleeping babies.

However, if there is a show that is earlier and the baby had a long afternoon nap maybe they'd be fine. If the baby starts to cry and bother others one of you can take him/her outside for a little stroller stride.

I personally think traveling with a 7 month old is rather easy. They eat, sleep, get diaper changed, eat some more, sleep some more, etc!! Which is a good thing. It's when the child is a toddler and walking plus going through the "terrible twos" that it is much more difficult when you have melt downs, "I don't want to..." etc.
