What is the best way to enjoy and see the Fjords. We are hoping to travel there late this summer or early fall. We enjoy being active on our trips. Thanks

We are combining two 'minnitours' -Fjordtours Norway in a Nutshell from Oslo to Bergen; and authentic-Scandanivia.com for a day trip, with hotel in Balesstrand on a Fjord and a boat trip back following morning to Bergen. Tho not cheap, very reasonable and we just get to show up. If you have longer you can do via car and train , hiking various locations.

We're starting in Bergen and having a couple of days there before beginning a tour of the fjords organised by Magnetic North (http://www.magneticnorth.travel). We're taking an express boat to Sogndal on the Sognefjord and then having a few days in the Jostedal national park to do some walking and possibly ice climbing on the glacier. We're staying in a nice local owned hotel that Magnetic North have organised which overlooks a small fjord. I think after that we're going to the more touristy area of Flam and seeing a different side of the fjord before travelling to Oslo by train. All in all it will be about 8 days.

We did Norway in a Nutshell ourselves, just go to the Tourist Information office in Bergen and buy a ticket, you don't need to pay a tour company.Plenty of info on this board if you search. We had a magic day, well worth it.
Maybe you could look into booking a few days on the Norwegian Coastal Voyage, we did the entire return journey but you could just do a couple of days. Troll Fjord at midnight was amazing as well as steaming into Geiranger. Best wishes with your planning.

and my question back then last year was...how many fjords do you need to see before it becomes like the castle and cathedral tour of england

we went to geiranger first
it is lovely
but narrowfjorden is reallly lovely

when the fjord is narrower, i find it is more spectacular...the twists and turns provide great contrast when photographing...all those wonderful angles and lights to capture

balestrand is breathtaking...but for different reasons
the light there...round sunset...well that 'fake sunset' they have..lol ...is outofthisworld lovely
i couldnt capture it like i wanted to on camera but it lives in my head

i suggest you do norway by car
it is easy and you will catch car ferries so you get to cruise anyway

Danen5, thank you for starting this thread, we are planning on visiting Norway next year and are in the planning phase.

Suspire, what an astounding link! Any reservation regarding a trip to the Norway fjords is gone.

We are planning on flying into Bergen from Miami, staying two nights and then taking the nutshell to Olso. On a 16 night tour of Scandinavia is this enough time devoted to the fjords?

Also what would we do on our only full day in Bergen? Take another tour? Danen5 I hope you have a great time and tell us all about your trip upon your return.

In Bergen, you can take the funicular to the mountain top for a wonderful view. Shopping at the Bryggen is always fun.
