First trip to Scandinavia / Europe

Jump to last reply

I have kind of a unique opportunity and need some advice on how to get the most of it.

My company is sending me to Stockholm to live / work for 2 months. I am an engineer and will have to travel frequently around Sweden and Norway, but will be based out of Stockholm. My wife and kids (girls, age: 6 and 7) will be allowed to come visit me for approximately 2 weeks during this time.

They are providing me with an apartment, but will pay for all travel expenses in Scandinavia, all hotel stays and reasonable travel expenses elsewhere provided I use good business judgement.

I plan to take leave for one week while they visit. They will arrive on a Wednesday and depart on a Tuesday or Wednesday 2 weeks later, and I plan to take the week of leave M - F in between giving us the weekend, as well - so 10 or 11 days, including travel.

We plan to do some things in Stockholm or Oslo, depending on my schedule / location for the first few days after they arrive. I've found plenty of things that the kids would enjoy in those first couple of days.

My question is this: What do you recommend to maximize this trip?

I have been to Greece and Portugal on 2 separate trips - both for business, and only short, 4 day trips. My family has never been to Europe and I know the worse thing you can do is try to do too much. They would want to see Germany, France, Italy, and Spain and it's just not possible in that short amount of time.

I will have a car while I'm there and, as I mentioned above, most expenses will be paid.

Thanks in advance for your knowledge and expertise.
