First time Italy 21 day itinerary - Matera or Lecce?

Jump to last reply

I will be going to Italy solo from Oct 13 -Nov 2. It will be my first time to Italy. I will be flying in and out of Milan airport and I will be using public transport. I've tried not to keep it too busy, but I'm finding it's almost impossible! So many lovely places to wander off! I've tried to mix in all the things I like..historic sites, beach, low-key, slightly offbeat, good food, and a bit of nightlife. I'm thinking of extending my time so I can stay in Amalfi, so with that said I'd have to give up either Lecce or Matera. I chose Matera just because it looks like nothing I've seen before and looks beautifully quiet. It looks like it'll be work to get there, but worth it in the end I think. I chose Lecce because of the baroque sites and beaches, but I think the beaches will be difficult for me to get to as I heard transportation isn't so reliable especially at that time of year. For people who've been to both Lecce and Matera, which one did you find more interesting? I know it's subjective, but I need some pro/con opinions to help me out here.
