First Time in Provance: 3 or 4 days in June, What should I see and do. Any ideas?
This is my first time in France, I am going to stay in Lyon with friends for a week and spending 3 or 4 days in Provance, Staying in Aviogon. I need some help with ideas and places that are must see. Please let me know ASAP. Kate

Will you be seeing Provence by car, train, or bus???
Are you interested in museums, Roman sites, medieval villages, lavender fields, small remote villages, farmers markets, historical sites, castles, scenic drives, abbeys, crafts, antiques, wineries, coastal towns, big cities, etc. "All the above" is probably not possible in 3-4 days.
What day of the week will you arrive, and what time of the month in June???

I am traveling in a car. I am very interested in theater, local crops, markets of all kinds, basicly all above. I have been reading Peter Mayle books, trying to get ideas and specifics. I really want to see festivels and local culture. Arriving Monday the 20th of June and leaving that friday.

The Peter Mayle books are a fun introduction to the Luberon, but to really focus on your trip you need a good guide book to help you sort out your priorities. In 3 or 4 days you can see a fair amount, but you'll need to start working out itineraries.

As luck would have it, June 21st is the national Fête de la Musique. You will find something music-related going on jut about everywhere, from Paris down to the smallest of villages. There are plenty of organized events (almost universally free) and above all, it is a chance for amateurs to take to the streets - for once, not to protest, I might add - but to have a good time and show off their "talents". In a big town such as Avignon, you will no doubt have a great time wandering around the town and just taking in the scene.
As for the rest, take Underhill's advice and try to sort out your priorities realizing you won't come anywhere close to seeing it all anyway, so pick a few things to do in a reasonably relaxed way and enjoy - keep in mind that while this may be your first time to France, it won't be your last !
