First time in London - need your help please!

I will be arriving in London Heathrow Airport tomorrow and still do not know the best, cheapest way to get to where we are staying...can someone help me?
I will be arriving around 2pm and I am staying at the Sacco Trinity Towers in Canary Wharf. I will have luggage(1) and I am just getting over knee surgery so I can get around but stairs are not my friend just yet. Any help will be appreciated.

Why there? The best and cheapest ways are entirely different. Cheapest would be the extremely long ride on the Tube with at least two changes. Best would be a car service that will take a good hour or more.

Canary Wharf is on the other side of London from Heathrow Airport.

Best won't be cheapest, since with mobility problems you might be best advised to look for a pre-booked car service - not even sure if there's time to fix it now, but people here recommend
www.justairports.com
and a service local to the apartments that looks pretty efficient and popular is
www.carrotcars.com

Otherwise if you can manage escalators, you could use the Underground (Piccadilly Line) to get to Hammersmith, walk a few steps across the platform to the District Line eastbound to Westminster, then escalator or lift down to the Jubilee line to Canary Wharf, where there are escalators and lifts to get you to street level, from where your accommodation is a very short cab ride away.

Getting back into the public transport system from where you're staying isn't difficult, but once you get back into the centre, you may well find steps all over the place (e.g., the DLR at Bank).

Which is it - best or cheapest? They are very rarely the same. On first thought, take the tube(s). Probably the tube option is best overall. Hopefully someone can tell you what the stairs situation is when you transfer from the Picadilly Line to the Jubilee line at Green Park...

The ONLY way that doesn't involve schlepping luggage and medium to long walks would be a pre-booked car service. contact justairports.com ASAP. It won't be cheap since Canary Wharf is a loooooong way from LHR. But it would cost about 1/2 what a taxi would charge you.

Agree that cheapest and best are NOT the same. If you have trouble with walking and don;t want to schlep luggage through a complicated public transit system you really need to arrange a car service.

Also - suggest you get a map of the tube to show where the stairs are so you can avoid those stations/transfers.

(Not sure why you decided to stay so far from most of the tourist sights - but that is a separate issue.)

I am guessing you may be travelling for work hence staying at Canary Wharf?

If so the cost of the airport transfer is likely covered in your travel expenses and therefore your best option. We always use www.justairports.com but be sure to book today!

Thank you so much for all of your advise. Canary Wharf was closer to the job, that is why I am there other wise I would be in the thick of things.
I will follow your advise and get a car service. Thanks again!

Jonikay, I have been satisfied with HOTELBYBUS which is a shared car service and much cheaper for a single traveler in my view. You just proceed to their office in the arrivals area and continue into London with 2-3 other travelers.Good luck.

>>Fly from Heathrow to London City Airport, not far from Canary Wharf!<<

You are joking - right??

>>HOTELBYBUS which is a shared car service and much cheaper for a single traveler in my view<<

You'd have to confirm they serve the area -- I doubt they do. I think the nearest hotel is the Hilton Canary Wharf and it is not included in their very long list of hotels. AFAIK they mostly serve central London.
