First time in Italy... revised itinerary

Okay, to make a long story short, I've never been to Europe before and I have two weeks to spend there while meeting up with some family in Bologna in mid October. I've posted a few other itineraries that has just highlighted my inexperience in planning European trips! So here's an itinerary keeping us just in Italy for the whole two weeks instead of the previous idea of hitting Italy, France, and Ireland. Any suggestions for this one?

Wed, 10/11 Fly into Rome, Train to Bologna

Thurs, 10/12 Bologna, Family arrives in Bologna Day trips to Ravenna, Modena, Rimini, Ferrara… over next three days

Fri, 10/13 Bologna

Sat, 10/14 Bologna

Sun, 10/15 Bologna

Mon, 10/16 Train to Venice

Tues, 10/17 Venice

Wed, 10/18 Venice

Thurs, 10/19 Train to Florence

Fri, 10/20 Florence, Day train trip to Pisa?

Sat, 10/21 Florence

Sun, 10/22 Train to Rome

Mon, 10/23 Rome

Tues, 10/24 Rome

Wed, 10/25 Fly to LAX

Thanks!

With only 2 nights in Florence the trip to Pisa may be too much and you don't want to go to Florence and miss what it has to offer because you are training to Pisa. If you must do Pisa, get up very early on the second day and get an early train. Come back to Florence for dinner. But I still think it is too much.

That's a lot of day trips from Bologna! You can certainly skip Rimini. It isn't really a mid October destination. I am not sure about your other stops, because I have only been to Ravenna.

Trim the day trips and you are right on target!

I think the basic itinerary is fine, and you can play it by ear what day trips you want to do.

I very much like Pisa, but you might find yourself completely captivated by Firenze.
