First Night in Istanbul

We're off to Turkey soon. My husband, myself and our a seven year old son fly into Ataturk arriving at 11 pm. The following day we fly out of Sabiha Gocken around 7pm. After some time in the Hatay province we'll be back for a few more days in Istanbul so this isn't our only shot at it. We're trying to decide where to stay for our first night. Should we get an airport hotel near IST so we can just go there directly and salvage any sleep we might get? We'd be closer to the touristy sites of Istanbul the next day in case we are able to get in any site seeing. Or should we just go directly to a hotel closer to SAW, sacrificing a bit of sleep but being closer to the airport for our next flight? Are there any sites near that airport that we could see before we fly out?
