Hi horsecorgi,
First class carriages have a little more room, and they have fewer passengers and fewer families. So, it's easier to find empty seating, it's a bit more comfortable, and it's a little more quiet.
Only you can determine if those benefits are "worth the extra money" to you --
Have fun!

Having done it and almost always in 1st, I would completely agree with Swandav2000. It all depends on YOU. Most regional trains have mostly 2nd Class seats and a few in First. Since you can easily get literally from one end of Switzerland to the other in about 4.5 hours by rail (the country is about the same geographic size as the state of West Virginia) only you can determine if 1st is worth the money.
A LOT of people will say that it isn't but they aren't the ones who are doing the traveling.
Now, OTOH, IF you are planning on taking a so-called "scenic" train such as the Glacier Express, the Bernina Express, the Goldenpass route, etc., then the First Class panorama cars are most definitely worth it IMO.
