Fireworks And A Beautiful Countryside

Our journey to Zurich in 2012 was in keeping up with our tradition to ring in the New Year some where we have never visited. With thousands of others we gather on the banks of Lake Zurich to ring in 2013.

As the midnight hour approaches we begin our personal countdown … 10, 9, 8 but then nothing happens.

Small cheers are made among friends then an announcement indiscernible to us is made over a public address system. About twenty minutes later an impressive firework show explodes into the night sky and the celebration of the New Year really begins.

A Beautiful Countryside

Waking up late after celebrating the New Year, we set out on a day drive to see some of Switzerland's amazing landscape. Our first destination is the city of Lucerne located in the North Central area of the country.

On a gorgeous clear winter day with the awesome Swiss Alps in the background we need to go no further to enjoy and experience the beauty of Switzerland. A walk around town and then across the 14th century wooden Chapel Bridge is more than impressive.

Eventually we move on to experience more of the countryside with majestic mountains and snow covered landscape.

At one point we pause a moment to listen to the peaceful sounds of tolling church bells echoing in a mountain valley. A nice touch to enjoying a beautiful countryside before heading back to Zurich.

Another wonderful sound is the cow bells! We stayed at an inn near Interlaken, and there were many cows on the hillside just across a small river of water. Everytime they lifted their heads from eating grass, jingle jingle went their bells. I also like hearing the church bells. We were "warned" about them when we checked into our hotel in Einsiedeln, but they were not a problem at all.

Nice video of Lucerne, one of the most beautiful places on earth, IMO. The ancient bridge, by the way, had a serious fire some 20 or so years ago and was then replicated. It's a neat addition to Lucerne in any case.

simpsonc510,

Missed the cow bells... but imagine they had a nice ring to them too

Tend to agree with you about Lucerne certainly on a clear day when you can take in gorgeous views of the Alps.

Sounds amazing. I also like quiet evenings.
