Fire at Rome Fiumicino airport

Jump to last reply

There was a devastating fire in Terminal 3 of Fiumicino airport in Rome shortly after midnight today, which has had an enormous effect on flights, not only in and out of Italy, but also on other European airports, awaiting planes that can't take off from Fiumicino.

At the moment, no flights in or out of the airport have been operational. It's estimated that flights may begin to operate at 14:00. There will delays and cancellations for at least the next couple of days. If you're traveling before Saturday, you should call your airline before leaving for the airport. Some airlines will divert flights to another airport from which you can take a train to Rome.

The commercial area of Terminal 3 is almost totally destroyed, This is where international flights from outside the Schengen area arrive and depart. Flights to the US use Terminal 5, and I assume that other flights will be diverted there for some time.
