Finding unique gifts in Prague?

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for unique gifts in Prague to bring home for friends - I've found a few great marionette shops, and Botanicus is fun for bath products, but I'd like to find something a little different - a pretty vase or scarf with personality.

Any tips?!

Thanks!

Bohemian crystal would cover the pretty vase.

Most garnets are mined near Prague and only one company mines and sets them. It is Granat Turnov and you should get a certificate of authenticity when you purchase. The store in Prague also had a store in Cesky Krumlov and I purchased a few gifts there. If you Google Granat Turnov stores you can
get the store addresses. The garnet is the January birthstone.

Bohemia crystal is everywhere and I got tired of seeing it in all those tourist shops, you couldn't get away from it. If I were to buy a vase in Prague, I'd go to the flagship Moser store (a fab building, to boot) http://www.moser-glass.com/en/ for something traditional or Blue Praha or Artel for something modern. http://www.bluepraha.cz/web.php?page=gallery
http://www.artelglass.com/ (there's an artel shop in the Mandarin Oiental Hotel)

There is a Museum of Communism in Prague and you can pick up some really modestly priced packs of playing cards and/or postcards with copies of vintage communist posters from the Soviet occupation. If any of your friends are oriented toward books, there are many coffe-table hardback and oversized paperback books all over town celebrating the great Art Nouveau works of Alphonse Mucha.

The local spirit 'Becherovka' is usually described as 'interesting' by people I give it to. Mix it with tonic (like a G&T) with a slice of lemon and it is a very refreshing drink. Known as 'Beton' this is also the Czech word for concrete! It comes in an attractive green bottle and in a very wide variety of sizes.
A cheap and cheerful present could be a tin of oplatky,, the wafer biscuits which almost everyone enjoys.

You can find a vase at Moser on Na Prikope or at the small shop in the Old Town Square.

Do you know that Fodor's uses my WOM (word of mouth) quote for Dr. Botanicus in the Prague Travel Guide???

Great tips! Thanks for these. I've been to the Mucha Museum gift shop but had forgotten how cool it was. Museum of Communism and the 'Becherovka' might also work out well.

sorry to disappoint - but there are NO unique gifts....how many Becherovka can you take with you and quite frankly who would drink it....Museum of Communism is an American product in Prague from a guy who does not know what he's talking about but was wise enough to cash in on it. Forget that it even exists entire waste of money.

I, too, felt the Museum of Communism in Prague was a waste of my time and money.

I love my garnet ring and purchased earrings for a friend in Prague. We gave a monetary gift to a Jewish organization in Prague and brought back the certificate for a Jewish friend in Texas.

Hi Saige,
Would you mind revealing which Jewish organization you gave to? It sounds like a nice gift idea.
Thanks!

Even though this thread is 4 years old, I suppose its information is still relevant.

Necroposting, still I would say most of the stuff is relevant.
There is this company (Manufaktura) with several outlets in the city and the airport, there stuff is nice.
http://www.prague-life.com/shop/shop...35-Manufaktura

there are also various markets on in various spots in the city that offer a lot of hand crafted stuff the one at Namesti Repbublicky is probably the most central but it is only on a few days a week

This thread has some great info in it. Normally we buy Czech glass bracelets but this thread has given us some new ideas.

there has been a couple of new shopping centers opened since this thread started . The Huge Mall at Andel has some interesting stores but the Paladium mall at Namesti republicky has quite a few more unusual shops ,one that sell really high quality chocolate ,its the type of place that checks your wallet as you go in .I spent a fortune in there for a couple of little tins of chocolate ,but it went down well with friends I had bought it for.
