Few questions about Italy Trip
Here are the questions in short with explanation to follow.
1. 2 nights Capri/3 nights Praiano or 3 nights Capri/2 nights Praiano?
2. Reserve train ticket from Rome Termini to Naples for an early train on Sunday June 22 or just buy when I get there?
3. Best way from Praiano to Pompeii and then to Rome?
4. Easier to get to Praiano from Positano or Amalfi? Arriving via ferry from Capri.
My wife and I leave June 21 & will return July 3. Recently found out she's pregnant (twins! dr. ok'd the trip) so I'll have to slow things down. I thought if I added a day to Capri and cut a day from the AC it may be easier for her. Neither of us have been there but I know the towns on the AC are very hilly with lot's of steps and the busses tend to be crowded.
After Capri and Praiano we're heading to Rome for 6 nights. We'll take it easy, we were there last March but the weather was crummy so we're going back.
Any advice is appreciated...

Hi Jeremy -
1. Your choice
If you are staying at Le Sirene in Praiano you can have an equally relaxing day on your balcony there ...
2. No need to book before you leave.
Buy your tickets when you get there. Assuming you arrive at FCO you can book them at the railway station there.
4. Praiano is the same distance (15 mins) from Positano and Amalfi.
Assuming you have luggage, Amalfi will be easier as there are no steps. You can get a bus or taxi near the dock in Amalfi (- whereas in Positano you have a climb up to the bus stop/taxi rank).
Hope this helps ...
Steve

3. PRAIANO-POMPEII
A taxi would cost you € 80-100.
Otherwise the quickest public transport option is probably:
- Take the SITA Sorrento bus to META (- 45 mins). See map:
http://www.supermappe.com/campania/meta.html
[Meta is the nearest railway station to Praiano on the Circumvesuviana line - the bus stops at Meta station].
From META it takes 25 mins by train to Pompeii SCAVI.
POMPEII-ROME
There are several options - depending how much you want to spend.
- LIMO: A limo/taxi transfer will cost € 300+
- BUS: There is a DIRECT Pompeii-Rome bus service (- departing Pompeii 17.45) in high season.
Fare: € 16.00
For details see:
www.marozzivt.it
- TRAIN: Via Naples (- Napoli Centrale)
Hope this helps ...

Steve,
Thanks for the great info, exactly what I was looking for.
Another questions about capri.... I read that you can rent a kayak and go into the Emerald Grotto on your own, what about the Blue Grotto??? Do you have to hire one of the guys in the rowboats or could you go in on your own? Is it even a good idea to consider?

Hi, jeremygil -
I don't know if one can rent a kayak to visit the Blue Grotto on one's own, but I did see someone swim in on his own. Do keep in mind that the grotto is not always accessible due to rough water and/or high tide.
Hope that helps!
