Ferry or Catamaran from Split-Hvar
Hi,
As posted on my previous post wife and I will be in Croatia in July. We are landing into Split airport at 8.45 am. We have 2 options to get to Hvar. First being the catamaran which departs Split port at 11.30 am and arrives into Hvar town at 12.30 pm. Other being the ferry which departs Split port at 11.00 am and arrives Stari Grad at 13.00. Does anyone know which of the 2 is more comfortable? I heard from one source that the ferries do not always run on schedule, and that to get a catamaran to Hvar we will have to wait hours in line because you can't buy tickets in advance. Is that true? Im more keen on catamaran since i will get sufficient time to get from Split airport to the port and also the journey time is less which means i will be in Hvar earlier. Please suggest

I'd take the cat every time. Not sure about the queues in July or if they vary mid week to weekend. From memory there is an earlier cat which will take out the day trippers etc (but dyor as they say) check the timetable

There is not much difference in terms of reliability. The only factor is if you want to be outside on deck (as on the ferry, as opposed to inside on the catamaran). I would choose based on the preferred time. I suppose the cat might sell out in July, but just take the ferry if so. There is luggage storage at the port, and the Split waterfront and palace is right there to kill a few hours.

I don't have a car. As bilboburgler mentioned and from online reviews that i read i dont think i will need a car in Hvar. I will be staying at the Park Hvar. We are looking to visit some bars, pubs at night and the occasional club like Carpe Diem. I want to go and have a good time and not take stress with the car, parking and stuff. And also i think drinking and driving is not a good idea especially on a vacation.
