Thanks for members feedback so far.
Have now firmed up a draft itinerary for June/July 2013. You need to know that my husband is a golf tragic (and I try valiently but unsuccessfully to keep up). We like to fit as much in as we can to our trips while we are still confined by work so are happy with schedules which may seem rushed to others - but please speak up if we're totally unrealistic. We wil fly into Dublin and hire a car at the airport.
We like cultural sites to a degree (best of - don't need to do them all and love scenic countryside plus sites associated with literary greats. We have 12 days before we meet friends for a fairly intensive golfing holiday around Northern Ireland where
I have the literary associations pegged, then off to London for the Test (cricket)
Feedback on the following itinerary for the Republic of Ireland would be gratefully received:
1. Fly into Dublin Dublin sights including literary sights. Literary pub tour. Stay Dublin
2. Dublin sights + Brú na Bóinne. Stay Dublin
3. To James Joyce Tower at Sandy Cove, Dalkey, Avoca , Glendalough, Kilkenny
4. Kilkenny sights, Rock of Cashel to Kinsale, see Old Head Golf Course - way too expensive to play. Meet Irish friends for dinner
5. Drive to Dooks Golf Club 2 hours, play Dooks
6. Drive to Dingle 1 ½ hours. Play Dingle Golf Course. Stay Dingle
7. Drive clockwise around Dingle Peninsula and Slea Head. Stay Tralee
8. Play Tralee Golf course. Drive 1 hr to Ballybunion
9. Play Ballybunion Golf Course.
10. Play Ballybunion second course. Drive to Limerick 1 ½ hours. Angela’s Ashes sights. Stay Limerick.
11. Limerick sights and drive to Galway 1 ½ hours via Gort. Stay Galway or Ferry terminal.
12. Minibus and Ferry to Aran Islands – then back to Galway. Start driving back to Dublin – stay ?

Pepperjack,
Its rushed for me, but if that suits you, have fun. Days are long, so the days you play golf, you will have time to see and do other things.
We've played Dingle and Dooks. They were great. I especially liked Dooks. We played Dingle one weekday and I think we were the only people there! Caution - its harder than it looks. Bring lots of golf balls.
On your way to Galway, check out Coole Park, since you say you like literary sites. http://www.coolepark.ie/ It's associated with Yeats, JM Synge, Lady Gregory, George Bernard Shaw, Sean O'Casey, etc.
Peig Sayers is associated with Blasket Island, on the Dingle peninsula.
Thanks very much GreenDragon and egnolive. I will bring lots of golf balls and Coole Park looks good.
