We arrive in rome FCO airport at 2;00P.M. and need to be at the cruise ship by 5;15P.M. is this enough time? What is the cost and the best way to get there.

You could arrange for a private car service, but that would be very expensive.

Take the train. Regional trains from FCO to Roma Trastevere run about every 15 minutes and the ride takes 26 minutes. The fare is €8.00.

If you are lucky enough to catch the 15:24 train at Trastevere, you'll arrive at Civitavecchia at 16:17. The 15:54 train arrives at 16:57. The fare is €4.10.

Buy your tickets for both trains at FCO.

It's a 10-15 minute walk from the Civitavecchia station to the entrance to the cruise port. Or you can take a taxi. There is free bus service from the port entrance to the cruise ships.

A couple more things.

There is open seting on regional trains and your ticket is good on any train. Be sure to validate yor tickets in the yellow boxes at each station. If you don't, the conductors will fine you on the spot when they check your tickets.

If saving time is more important than saving money, book a car service. It's faster than the train because you won't have to go into Rome.

Immigration and baggage claim at FCO can be painfully slow. A 2pm arrival means you're probably arriving via a European hub somewhere so you may not need to go through immigration. That detail may matter so please tell us where your flights are from.

Even if you don't need to wait for immigration and only baggage claim I think you are taking a risk assuming you'll be out of FCO with enough time to catch a train to Rome, then another train back to the Civitavecchia, then walk or get taxi to port. Best case you'd arrive with about 30min to spare. Worst case...

Best bet IMO is to have a car service waiting for you outside baggage claim with a name sign, then you can be on the road in minutes and get dropped off right at the port entrance.

Better 2hrs early than 5min late.

Sincerely I think,if you arrive at 2 pm, the best solution is a private car. You need about 1 hour, maybe something more, for luggage delivery and walking to the train at the station in the airport. The local line to trastevere in connection with the train to the Port, leaves at 3.12 pm ( you have to be very lucky to be in time for this)and you will be at the station of Civitavecchia at 4.57pm. From there you have not other choise than a taxi(15/20 min), because you have no time enough for the free-shuttle.
If something goes wrong, you do not even booked any alternative

My wife and I just completed an Eastern Mediterranean cruise with Celebrity and were confronted with the same dilemma. Limo services were very expensive (a rip-off in fact), as were the cruise line offers, while the train, definitely the cheapest option, involves a series of inconveniences such as lugging luggage, getting tickets, being fined for not validating them, changing trains, up and down stairs, jostling crowds (!!), and ending up at Civitavecchia station and not where the cruise shuttle departs.

As far as trains......remember train strikes! I say hired car.
