My husband and I are beginning our Yorkshire adventure in July in York. We will be there two nights. Can you recommend traditional British restaurants? We will be staying in a B&B near Bootham and would prefer something within walking distance. As we will be splurging on two Michelin star restaurants later in our journey, we would like to stick to nice traditional restaurants or pubs that would not be expensive (i.e. around 15 pounds per person). Any recommendations?
We will be there on a Monday and Tuesday.

Hi, some suggestions for you.
Cafe No 8 is very close.

Might blow your budget, but definitely worth investigating.
I love Cafe Concerto by the Minster

Meltons Too is a bit of a stroll but does a great Yorkshire steak and kidney pie. Lots of Yorkshire produce on their menu -

Lastly you can't get much more traditional than Betty's tearooms (they do much more than tea and cakes) There are 2 in York - details here -

Out of interest, are you splurging on Michelin restaurants in Yorkshire? There's some amazing places up here!
Ah - seem to recall you are off to the Yorke Arms. My favourite restaurant, and in such a stunning location too.
Think I need to drop a few hints and return (although we did go for Valentines Day, champagne, chocs and a rose in the room and a special valnetines menu which was just out of this world), and stayed the night for the first time. The breakfast was pretty amazing too!
Bettys is known throughout Yorkshire and beyond. Was in York in Jan and just looked in the windows - line was out the door and it all looked so nice - not just the pastries and food but the glitzy opulent place.
Great suggestions - I appreciate it. I have made note of each one. Thanks a lot!
Morgana, you have a brilliant memory - yes, we are going to Yorke Arms as well as the Star Inn at Harome. Have you been to the Star Inn?
The Star Inn is superb - I assume you have already booked?? In April it won the Taste of England Awards for Excellence, so it's even more popular than before.
The owners of the Star also have Perns in nearby Helmsley which may interest you, especially if you are after picnic supplies!
