We are leaving for London in a week. Wondering what everyone's favorite things to do there are? Favorite pubs? Interesting walks.

We have spent a couple of weeks there over the years so have hit many of the top tourist attractions. Just wanting to soak up the atmosphere this time.

Any thoughts?

1. British Museum. You've been before? Then go back and check out the new exhibits.

2. Imperial War Museum. There should be some Great War Centennial special exhibits.

3. Dim sum in Chinatown.

4. Walk through Hyde Park.

Camden Passage for brunch at the Elk in The Woods, hot chocolate at Paul A Young, browsing the mid century glass in Tomas's shop, and the rubber stamp stall.

The V&A for the jewellery room and whatever exhibition is currently showing.

The Eye at dusk.

Primrose Hill for more spectacular views across the city, and a campari and blood orange sorbet at Marine Ices.

The Photographer's Gallery for free exhibitions.

* If you want to go to the imperial war museum . . . Be SURE to get there early. I went at lunch time a couple of days ago and all the tickets for the day were gone. It is free but the WWII galleries are by timed ticket only.

* the roman arena and art gallery at the Guild Hall

* the Silver Vaults

* a London Walks pub walk

* the Cutty Sark

* a tour of Somerset House

* a tour of one of the iconic theatres (Drury Lane, the ROH, etc)

Museum of the City of London if you haven't been since it was remodeled

The Wolseley on Picadilly for brunch or lunch

Stroll through the shopping arcades off Picadilly

Soane Museum (may have to ask to see Hogarth's the Rake's Progress, can't remember) combine with the Inns of Court, Silver Vaults, Somerset House....

Shopping and cafés on Marleybone High Street

Have a look at the London Walks website walks.com. They do lots of walks covering the main sights but also have lots of quirky ones. Recently did the Street Art Walk, which is 13.45 pm starting Liverpool Street. It was great. Have a look to see if there is something there that sparks your interest.

A second vote here for London Walks! It's a bit touristy, but we loved the Ripper walk that ended at the Ten Bells. The guide made it for us. He's Donald Rumbelow, who is a criminologist and author puported to be the world expert on Jack the Ripper.

We loved that he pointed out things we never would have noticed, like parts of the old Roman wall onto which buildings were constructed.

oo I like Marylebone too - they have a great little craft fair on that bit at the corner of Marylebone Road and Marylebone High St (by the parish church) at xmas, with hand printed paper, and a hat maker. Also some decent patesseries along the high street, The Conran Shop, plus Regents Park.

Personal favs include: Borough or Camden Market. For me, the duck sandwich at Borough was worth the trip; National Gallery; V&A; Greenwich Royal Observatory (with Thames boat ride); Parliament tour. To get a feel for the city on our first trip we took a hop on/off bus which also had a guide for the changing of the guard. Walking the Strand. And a thousand more. Can't be bored in London.

The Mayflower Pub In Rotherhithe for it's location on the Thames, it's history and the Friday night fish & chips special, 10£ for 2 upstairs with candlelight.
