Favorite Inexpensive Restaurant in Rome?

Do you have a "find" to share -- a favorite little restaurant that serves lunch for 10 Euros (or less) and dinner for 15 - 20 Euros (or less) -- not including wine and desserts?
FYI, we'll be staying at the Cesari (between the Pantheon and the Trevi Fountain). Thanks. (Leaving in a week and can hardly wait!)

Songdoc, one of my favorite "local" restaurants was at Mario's in Trastevere on Vic. Del Moro. It's just around the corner from Pizza. S. Maria. I had lunch there during Easter week and the price including wine, water and main courses was 10 Euros. Have a great trip !!! Mike

Thanks so much. That's just the kind of thing I'm looking for. Anybody else have any suggestions?

Our favorite restaurant near the Pantheon...with the best Roman artichokes...is Ecce Bomba. The place is usually filled with locals.

A wonderful meal can be head for under 20 Euros at Ciccia Bomba in the neighborhood just north of the Piazza Navona. I really like this place, but would not order their panna cotta again. That said, they serve a rosemary foccacia instead of bread as you sit, and this was so good that we ordered two more (one for an appetizer and one to take on the plane the next day). Very good roast potatoes and nice fish dishes, too. Our companion had a bowl of a seafood stew with pasta that looked incredible. Highly recommended to me by someone who knows Rome well.

I've got two: one good, one bad.

The good: Ristorante Scanderberg in Piazza Scanderberg, just up the street and around the corner from Trevi Fountain. Great little hole-in-the-wall place. Granted I haven't been there in 5 years so I don't know if it's still around, but please post a followup when you get back if you go by this place so that I'll know to go back to it when I go to Rome next year.

The bad: the bar/trattoria adjacent to the hotel Cesari. The parmigiano had fermented, and the pasta sauce was three days old. Blech. As I say, "the water was good."

Hi Songdoc - any restaurant in the Campo Di Fiori .. actually.. if you are facing the statue the restaurant that we really liked was the second from the last on your right hand side.

I would really recommend, Ristorante del Pallaro. Great simple food served family style. It is an 8 course meal which includes simple house wine and desert. I was there in 2002 and the price fix was 17 euro's per person. It is located on Largo del Pollaro in the Jewish Ghetto just a short walk from the Plaza Navona. Best value in Rome. Does not take credit cards. The owner claims that Julius Caesar was assinated on the spot.

Another vote for Ristorante der Pallaro! The price for a 5-course dinner including wine and dessert was 20 euros per person for dinner in June 2004. It's on Largo del Pallaro, 15, south of Piazza Navona. Very walkable from your hotel.

No menus...because you get everything this family-run Italian family ristorante cooks up daily! Trust me, there is so much food it won't matter if you don't like something. We were stuffed, and we loved everything...even my picky teens loved the food.

As the outside patio was full, we were ushered inside, and ended up being delighted at sitting inside, where we could be closer to the heart of this Italian family...the kitchen! Also we were the only tourists inside, we were surrounded by Italian-speaking regular customers. Papa and Mama both made us feel at home.

Get a Streetwise Rome map from your local bookstore. It's a plastic coated map with a street and piazza index. On this map the street, Largo del Pallaro, is abbreviated "L. d. Pallaro", in tiny print.

Pizzeria Da Baffetto has very good pizza. One's near piazza navonna and they have another in the piazza fiori.
We ate twice at L'Orso 80 (near piazza navonna). I believe they have the most amazing antipasto I've ever seen or eaten. Order one and you'll have more food than you can ever eat. Inexpensive and good.

I completely concur with the previous message. My Roman aunt and cousins hsve taken us to both the Pizzaria and Orso 80 and I think of both as all time favorite meals-especially Orso. No need to order anything except the anitpasti-you have never seen anything like it!

Songdoc, here's another vote for L'Orso and their antipasto. It really is a meal in of itself and for around 10-12 Euros. It's located on Via Dell Orso about a 3 minute walk from P. Navona toward Via Di Monte Brianzo. Mike

one more vote for Ristorante Del Pallaro!
It was our favorite restaurant in Rome as well as the cheapest.

We ate there twice actually. Only SLIGHT disappointment was that the 2nd time we went back, the courses were exactly the same as the first time we went 3 nights before. I just thought we might get to try some even more new local foods. But it was all so good I didnt mind eating it twice!

First time we were seated inside the restaurant & i agree with the other poster, we too were surronded by locals & close to the kitchen it was a very cool atmosphere.

We sat outside 2nd time & it was still great, but its very close quarters & lots of tourists out there.

42 Euro for a ton of food, wine, water, & dessert for 2. & the waiter would not let us tip him, which was weird.

Its very close to Campo de Fiori, go there for drinks & people watching after dinner...

I really enjoy this restaurant, Pummarola Drink. If you are standing facing the Pantheon it is on one of the side streets behind you. The address is Via d. Maddalena, 16/19. I love their lasagna and they have great sangria.
