FARE ALERT: Dulles R/T Rome $642 Delta May/June 2014

On both Kayak and Delta's own site today, wide choice of 1-Stop R/T flights Wash. Dulles to/from Rome FCO for $642 to $686 (same fares NOT showing out of Atlanta or JFK, despite some flights changing at JFK).

There are a few flights in this price range same route offered by KLM and Alitalia, as well.

Hope someone can take advantage of this really great fare.

Wow! Flights from DC to Rome for less than $700! Unheard of. Thanks! If I hadn't already booked a trip to Spain, I'd be jumping on that for sure.

Dulles is a major hub for UNITED. United has N/S flights, or used to, to Rome out of Dulles or at least through EWR...am wondering if United will match these.

Dukey1: Do you mean it could be worthwhile to call an airline such as United and ask for a "match price"? Or do you mean that United might notice this offer and follow with one of their own?
I'm curious, as I'd never heard of asking an airline to match a competitor price, and would be interested to know if this is worth trying.

Thanks,

no, no airline is going to haggle with someone over the phone who wants their fare lowered, forget that.

He means that in marketing, sometimes competitive airlines follow suit when they see a good fare, as they don't want to lose that business. So keep a watch on united's fares.
It is a good fare, I agree.

Christina:

Thanks for taking the time to answer. It was what I assumed, but didn't want to take a chance that I was missing something.
