Family skiing Europe

Hi
We are a group of 20 people - (4 families) looking to find a good value ski break over the New Year or mid-term (9th February 2012.) or even the end of March 23rd as we are limited to school holidays.

We have all skied before so range from lower intermediate to black slopes. The youngest kids are 10.

We hope to fly from Ireland Dublin or Cork and can get flights to Geneva, Munich or Milan at a good price - we are looking for any suggestions on where to ski for the best value.

We would like a resort suitable for families but with a good apres-ski - We are open to staying in apartments or hotels, houses/chalets whatever is best value.

Any advise would be of help

Thanks

We prefer Austria for skiing. St. Anton would have everything you are looking for. Plus it is more snow sure than many resorts.

Another option, though the skiing is less strenuous, is the Porte du Soleil area in France.

Chamonix is fab too.

You have zillions of options. Over New Year it will be most expensive and probably already booked. I would go in February - best snow and already longer days and good rates.

I also think February would be your best month in terms of snow but you will also be probably competing with winter vacation week for a lot of European schools.

We've gone skiing during Christmas break and Spring break (mid-March), in Austria, Italy and France. We like the conditions better during Spring Break.

For us the best area would either be Lech/Ischgl in Austria or Dolomiti in Italy but I don't think they have the best value in terms of skiing. Try St Anton or Kitzbühel in Austria or Livigno or Bormio in Italy.

Thanks for that info - have checked prices and it still looks like 1 week sking is the same cost as 2 weeks in Orlando Florida in the summer. - Tough decision

Resorts mentioned above can be among the most expensive in Austria -
names such as St. Anton, Lech , Kitz known world wide.
Christmas / New Years period until about January 6 normally most expensive due to long vacation period here with schools closed.
Febenau.comruary again winter school vacation time in many countries.
March excepting Easter time if it falls then can be less expensive - fewer skiers and often best temperatures and longer daylight.

Look to the regions like
Wildschonau

www.wildschoenau.com
numerous nice villages - good ski lift network - not far from Munich for transfers.

Also

Check out Madonna di Campiglio or Livigno in the Dolomite mountains or Roccaraso in Abruzzo mountains - it is a very easy drive regarding the latter and very affordable. There is also a ski resort not far from Lake Maggiore on the alps - not far a drive from Milan.
