Eze outside of Monaco

I would take a cab and dine at La Chèvre d’Or which is very expensive but excellent food and outstanding views. I have also had lunch at a reasonable lovely outdoor restaurant without views but I can't for the life of me think of the name. Maybe someone else will.

EZE is about 20-30 minutes from Monaco up off the Upper Corniche Road. Easily reached by train or bus, so not sure why would you need an expensive cab ride. Just follow the hordes of cruisers as this is a very popular daytrip. To reach Eze, take a train from Monaco to Eze Bord de Mer. When you come out of the station, you'll see a bus stop. Take the bus to the entrance of Eze (steep hil entrance). Depending upon how your train arrival time links with the bus schedule, you may have to wait. The bus schedule depends on the time of the year, you may have to wait 15-30 mts for the next bus. In the summertime you also see a line of taxis around the bus station to take you up to the village.

If you prefer, Bus 112 will take you direct from Monte Carlo to Eze Village without the need to transfer from train to bus. The bus runs every 90 minutes so check bus schedule online. Bus 112 does not run on Sundays.

Eze is a provencal mountain village, quite picturesque, with an amazing view over the coastline. However, you find 100+ provencal mountain villages - and many are more beautiful than Eze - and you find dozens of vistas with a breathtaking view over the coast - many of them with a better view than from Eze.

Eze has been becoming popular because it is a most convenient destination for cruisers. Hence, it is totally spoiled by souvenir shops (Fragonard perfume!) and overpriced, mediocre restaurants.

But the Americans are CRAZY for Eze. Have fun!

Hi; A little different take on Eze. Everything is 'in the eye's of the beholder'. Eze is 'unique' in it's setting, being 1300 feet above the Mediterranean and looking down at the sea. Is there a LOT of tourists. YES, but aren't we the tourists??!!! Are there many 'souvenir shops? YES, it's a huge part of Europe's economy. Go and enjoy. iris1745/dick P.S. Visiting Eze was fine for a few hours, but I have no desire to go back.

My take is Eze is that it has jumped the shark. It has become too 'touristy'. Yes, we are tourists, but I get overwhelmed by the cheap souvenirs and the ratio of 10:1 tourists:villagers there. Last time we were there, I couldn't wait to escape and get somewhere else.

Other options: We loved the Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild, for example. Beautiful gardens (and I'm not a gardening type... I have a black thumb but still appreciated it.

Hi wordsmith; You now have a lot of different opinions. Cheap souvenirs; YES, but also quality goods if you want to pay the price. You get cheap souvenirs everwhere you go. The ratio may even be 20:1, but we love tourists and the people we meet. Google 'Eze' and go to images to see what Eze looks like. I believe everyone's opinion is valid. Eze is a magical place for me. I was very much in love the first and only time I went to Eze. Sitting on that terrace, eating a lovely lunch while looking down on the sparkling blue Med --- I thought I was in heaven.

I'd go back in a heartbeat with my new wife, whom I love even more. I'll bet we wouldn't even notice the souvenir shops.
