Expresso

I need to buy some expresso coffee (beans or ground) on our trip to Italy . It is a gift for an Italian friend. I'm not a coffe drinker, and need some suggestions on what brand is good, and is there any special place to buy it? We will be in Venice, Assisi, and Rome.

I don't mean to be pedantic (okay, maybe I do ), but it might help you to know that the bar is spelled Tazza D'Oro. It is right around the corner from the Pantheon, but if you can't find it, you can ask for directions -- it's well known.

If it's not a surprise gift, why not ask your friend which brand he prefers? I have found many Italian brands where I live in Boston....after returning from Italy, found the same coffee in Boston. But I don't know where you live.

You are likely to easily find stores that sell coffee in all three places you mention, although Assisi is much smaller than the other two.
