Expresso Wifi - Other Wifi Devices

My husband and I are going to Italy in September (first time!) and I started looking around at options for us to access the internet on our phones/ipads. Everything I've read so far said that there's wifi in the hotels, but we're renting a car to drive south from Rome and would like to have access to the maps application on our phone in case we get lost, so wifi in hotels won't work. I looked at a few, and Expresso Wifi seems like it works pretty well from what I've read so far, but I would love any personal insight anyone has!

Thanks!
Ashley

If you have an unlocked smart phone, you can buy a local SIM card in Italy with data and just create your own hotspot with the phone to give WiFi to all your other devices.

Can't you download the maps to your hone and use them offline?

and ipads are unlocked by default, so you could possibly just get a sim card for the ipad. Some companies are offering data-only plans that are reasonable and are targetted at tablet users. Getting a phone unlocked is probably a better idea, but sometimes you can't, so this might be an option for you.

I'd hate to have to depend on finding a wifi signal when I'm in a car and lost. Are they really going to have good coverage?

When driving, a paper map is often your best friend.

You could purchase a Garmin GPS through Amazon and not need any wifi. Make sure it contains European maps or it is compatible with a Simm card containing European maps.

We use this every year in Italy.

Buon viaggio,
