Eurowhat?
Euros or ECUs (european currency units)is what most of europe is using as money these days. THEY ARE NOT EURODOLLARS. Honest. Eurodollars have little to do with european countries and less to do with the euro. they are dollar (as in United States currency)denominated deposits held outside the US.

I didn't even know eurodollar had a real meaning.
I don't know why people call these eurodollars, either -- what is somewhat irritating to me is people who put a US dollar sign in front of the amount. They used to do this even with French francs, though, and that really made no sense.
The paper is also called euro banknotes in English, and euro billets in French, though. The official website of the Central European Bank calls them that in those languages (and also uses the "s" as a plural on euros, now I think arguments about that are silly).
Too bad they had to call the amount under one euro in cents, though.

Christina - the "cent" part derives from percent, the same as the old centimes in France; i agree with you on the problem, though - it does lead some people to assume that the base currency is a dollar. Using a dollar sign for another currency is very bizarre. I still see it occasionally on international websites that have multiple languages (including some that quote hotel rates), where it can be very misleading.
