Europe's latest fave rave: Kidlington
Kidlington, halfway between central Oxford's medieval grandeur and the Cotswolds' honey-coloured thatched cottages, isn't exactly pretty. Most people who've travelled by bus or car from Oxford to Woodstock or Burford will have passed it without noticing, and no-one who has noticed it will remember anything about it.
Till now.
Suddenly, it's being over-run by Chinese tourists (it's also en route from Oxford to Bicester Village discount mall) - and no-one knows why.

The most common explanation seems to be they're trying to meet the locals.

When I read your title I thought it was some wild rave party or something and couldn't for the life of me figure out where it might be.
That's hysterical
Used to stop in Kidlington regularly for the dry cleaners . . .

One of the more adventurous theories is that the tourists are time-travellers, wishing to glimpse a thriving English village before it meets its demise when the UK leaves the European Union.
There's a John Wyndham story about that. Ah well, now we know what it's like to be on the receiving end.....

Who would not want to come and see "Europe's biggest village"?
Now on my wish list - just to see the Chinese hoards - thanks for posting.
and where does this Europe's biggest village B S come from if not to gain notoriety?

East Asians have been going mad crazy over retro western culture for some years now.
I think they are trying to find the iconic Kidlington Cinema, wrecked by crazed Bill Haley fans during the first local showing of "Rock Around the Clock" in 1955.
My mother wouldn't let me go. She wouldn't buy me a Vincent Black Shadow motorcycle, either. It explains a lot of my general air of resentment.
