European travel by hired car

Is there such a thing as travel between European cities by hired car, e.g. Rome to Nice?

With a driver, like a cab.

Of course - if you're willing to pay many hundreds of euros for it (rental for the car, gas and tolls, pay and expenses for the driver - both ways).

For an estimate check out and contact www.romelimo.com.

It is about 700km from Rome to Nice, so figure about 7hrs driving time door to door. No touring, no detours. Maybe less if you make good time on highways. Maybe more if there is congestion.

My guess (totally random here) is you'll get a quote for about 800-900 Euros, one way.

A quick check shows airfare (1hr flight) for $190 one way. (on www.kayak.com)

You also have the option of a 10 hour train trip - some of it with very pretty scenery.
