I'll grant you Brighton, Blackpool, and possibly Scarborough. Tom_mn, as popular seaside resorts but Portobello? the only one I know is a London market!

instead we could add Skeggy [Skegness], Eastbourne, Bournemouth, Sandown [on the Isle of Wight] Clacton, Southsea, Sidmouth, and there are probably a few more that I've forgotten.

Rimini could also be described as Venice's seaside resort.

and Southport, Morecambe, Southend-on-Sea (has or had the longest pier or any sticking out into the Thames estatuary; Margate; and on the Cornish Riviera Torquay still hops; Weston-super-Mer; well those are ones that I;ve been to - I collect British seaside resorts - something tacky about them - a lot tacky but that I luv and people watching - ordinary Brits - at its best - warts and all and of course the local Rock!

There is a Portobello in Edinburgh, but it's not really a resort, just a suburb on the river.
