European cell phones

When my husband and I were in Maastricht a couple of years ago we purchased two inexpensive cell phones and chargers. Is it possible to get a french sim card put in and use them there? Has anyone done that?

I'm sure if the phones have the right freq. bands for Europe (don't know if it varies by country), then you can use a SIM from France. Plenty of people have bought phones outside of Europe and have done this, so your phone s/b ok, too.

Your phones are almost certain to be locked to the original network, so won't accept French sim card. Ease of unlocking depends on make and model.

Yes. Install any other carrier's SIM (T-Mobile or AT&T in the US) and the phones will tell you if they need to be unlocked.

If they do, Google unlock make model and see what can be done for free.
